Burnt Mill Farm Carr Lane/Lunts
One time the farm used to grow potatoes and until 20 years ago, there used to be pigs,, as the farm was once famous for. The farm is very neatly laid out with 99% of the total area concreted, but as with most farms,, there are still the old brick buildings standing, adding a unique carracture to the farm.
The latest machinery is also present on the farm, from Massey Ferguson Tractors to the latest Manitau forklift truck.
On the right and below you can see one of Massey Fergusons latest modles of Combine Harvesters owned by the farm in action, a Massey Ferguson CEREA 7256.
The main consideration with wheat crops is when the weather is right and the crop is ripe enough to harvest, this must be done quickly and efficiantly as possible as weather conditions may slow up the harvesting.
As with many wheat crops, if they become damp in any way after wet weather, they most probably will need some form of drying. Below you can see the harvested crop being fed through a corn dryer and several trailers are under cover either before or after drying.
Burnt Mill Farm is situated at the top of Carr Lane, overlooking Hale Village from about
1 mile away and is farmed/owned by Mr Philip Lunt.
The farm grows various corn crops from Wheat, Barley and Linseed Oil (Rape).
