Parish Council Precept/Council Tax Rise

At the January 2016 meeting of Hale Village Parish Council, a majorty vote was cast, to raise the annual precept from HBC of £16.000, to £25.000 to subsidise the Village Hall.
A figure of £10.000 was arrived at - required, to subsidise the village hall during it’s transition from being knocked down - to being rebuilt, after the Parish Council was awarded £500.000 from the Big Lottery Fund
It means villagers will have to find an extra £12 to £15 which will be added to this years 2016 HBC Council tax, which is to be 3.9% - once the figures have been approved by HBC.
What is a Parish Precept
A Parish Council gets its funding by receiving a small amount of the local Council Tax. This is referred to as a The Parish Precept.
How is the precept calculated.
Each Parish Council forecasts the amount of funding it will require for the following year and requests this funding from its local Borough Council (Halton Borough Council) in the form of a precept tax that is included within the local Council Tax. A Council Tax base is calculated by equating to the number of Band D equivalent properties in each Parish/Area.
