Halton Borough Council Warns Of Bogus Callers

April 15, 2016

Halton Borough Council has put out a warning after a couple of workmen wearing ID badges knocked on the door of an elderly Runcorn resident who lives alone.

They asked to check her electric cupboard and smoke alarms.

The lady’s landlord has confirmed that no visitors or inspections had been arranged.

The callers were both in their 40s and arrived in a white van.

Avoid being caught out by other doorstep rogues by refusing to deal with people who cold-call you.

You can get a free 'no cold calling' card and letterbox sticker from any Halton Direct Link.

If you or somebody you know has been caught out by a scam please contact one of Halton Borough Council's expert Trading Standards Officers, Linda or Sue on 0151 511 8785 or 0151 511 8775, who are already working with people in Halton who have lost thousands of pounds to scams.

If you need advice on anything else please contact the Citizens Advice Consumer Helpline or 03454 04 05 06 for advice.
