St Mary's Church Heritage Open Day Keeps Visitors In The Picture On Village History

St Mary's Church took part in the national Heritage Open Day's event, Saturday 9th September.

The Church was open from 10am to 3pm with various displays on view, from old photographs, maps and a brief visit to the Church Tower was organised - to enjoy the views across the village.

The Lord Mayor of Hale Village - Paul Turton attended the event , with a display of Freemen Regalia and chatted to visitors about local history and the Freemen of Hale.
Keeper of the Archives - Freeman William Stephens, had a display of photographs a hand made model of Hale Hall and literature relating to village events over the past 100 years.
Evelyn Hudson Chair of the Guildswomen of Hale, had a display of local history and photographs of various events villagers had been involved with.
Steve Hall from Hale British Legion attended with information about the local Hale Branch of RBL and the Poppy Appeal.
St Mary's Church Bell ringers had photographs of the tower restoration on display, showing how the church tower and main church building was restored after the great fire of 1977.

Volunteers served refreshments throughout the day, to visitors, Ros Barlow was able to give visitors a tour of the Church Tower, calling in at the Bell ringers chamber followed by the climbing the remaining steps to the top of the tower.
